Meatless Monday

romaineMeatless Monday is a great low impact campaign to care for the environment and to kick off a plant based nutrition.   Since it was launched 10 years ago in the US,  a poll conducted said 39 percent said they eat less meat than they did three years ago.

Why Monday? “Because several studies have demonstrated that people are more likely to try to quit smoking, begin a diet or exercise regimen, schedule doctors’ appointments or adopt other healthy behaviors on Monday than any other day.”

Monday being a market day at TheVillageGreenShop, we thought of creative ways to celebrate a plant powered day!

  • Juicing – 80% veggies + 20% fruits (throw in some spice like ginger, basil, cilantro or lemon grass perhaps)
  • We would like to reduce food waste so we are also issuing green deal coupons for any abundant leafy green and veg produce for the week to ensure that they make it to  table.  If you are a restaurant, community of households or simply cooking a big pot for a special occasion check this out!
  • Legumes and tofu are great source of protein and perfect for any type of veg.

Cheers.

What is Good Food

IMG_1566

Healthy – Real and living food. No pesticides, no fungicides, no GMO, no hormones and no antibiotics.

Fair         – We share with the farmers the “wealth” they create by buying the produce cash and at a moral price.   We don’t haggle for a bargain.

Accessible & Affordable – Our local food drops and subscription and pre-order including the group-buy together model enable us to bring the price further down.  Watch out for green deal coupons which we are launching soon.  These are abundant local  seasonal organic items waiting to be snapped at a bargain!

Sustainable – from production to distribution we ensure that we reduce  cost and damage to the environment.

Why organic farming is important

Soil is enriched of natural nutritional fertilizer so it meet your needs.

Soil is enriched of natural nutritional fertilizer to meet your needs.

TheVillageGreenShop’s mission is to reduce toxicity in food, unsustainable consumption and food waste and we do this through organic farming method, and a business model that allow us to plan production based on demand, pick to order produce and buy together.

What is organic farming?

The produce at TheVillagegGreenShop uses natural farming method where crops are grown without any pesticides, herbicides, fungicides and other chemicals. It uses animal manure and plant based pesticides like pepper spray and other herbs to keep insects at bay and maintain the health and productivity of the soil.

Why is organic farming important?

Evidence shows that the use of fungicides, pesticides and other chemicals are extremely dangerous to our health and the health of our planet as the use of these chemicals release carbon dioxide into the atmosphere and penetrate the soil and water system.

Organic farming is sustainable agriculture because it restores or builds the soil’s eco system, respects the natural environment and ensure the livelihood for farm families.

New improved milk and cheese

20130906_210550Our producers of carabao’s milk and cheese have just concluded their series of intensive training.  Not only that they have expanded the network of dairy farmers by training neighbouring communities in dairy farming which means that a sustained and bigger supply is put in place to bring these natural, unprocessed and organic dairy products to more communities.

As you know the milk has been relaunched recently with improved taste and packaging.  Now comes the kesong puti and cream cheeses in 3 delightful flavours: garlic, plain and moringa.

These products are available on a weekly basis preferably for subscription.  The more people will buy the bigger the discount we can give.  There is strength in numbers.

Let us know if you would like to try by pre-ordering every Tuesday, 11:00 am to assure you of a weekend delivery.

Local Seasonal Food Bought Together

join handsTheVillageGreenShop was founded  based on group-buy, pre-order and subscription model which enable us to bring to your table fresh and affordable organic produce grown directly by community supported farms and family farmers, and picked to order for you.

We are taking our model to the next level by creating a wider distribution system where communities and local farmers come together to buy and sell local, seasonal and farm fresh sustainable produce .

Why are we doing this?  Because we would like to bring the price of organic produce further down, and the only way we can do this is to create an efficient food distribution system where more communities pre-order, subscribe and buy together on market days.  Simply, the more people buy together, the bigger the discount.  There is strength in numbers.

How it’s going to work?

You may sign up to either of the following as:

1) Local Drop

2) Susbcriber of organic produce

Local Drops  are passionate individuals, cafes, local stores or helpful neighbour who share with our mission to bring fresh healthy and sustainable food to their family, friends and communities which could be in offices, villages,  churches, schools, gym or practically any group who would like  to eat and buy together local, seasonal and organic produce. We will help set up the Local Food Drop in your area and organize your community to buy together local seasonal and sustainable produce.

The Organizers of the Local Food Drops enjoy discounts and other freebies.   Recently, a subscriber-friend of ours signed up to become a local food drop in her community in Quezon City and part of Greenhills.  So working together with our customers and subscribers who are as passionate as us is a brilliant way to increase our campaign, outreach and access of organic produce grown by local and community farmers.

Interested clients can buy directly to local food drops on a weekly basis.   Here’s how you can be part of a local food drop:

1) You can check with us if there is one in your community.  If there’s none, you may want to consider. Having joined your local Food Drop, you will let us know what you want to  try or subscribe from a selection of local seasonal and organic produce every week. Or you may respond to our weekly blast by pre-ordering on what’s on offer before cut-off.  You may check our Facebook page weekly.

2)  Your orders are picked and harvested to order by your local  farmers.

3) You pick up your order from the local Food Drop.

Sign up now and let us know.

Against GMO

Food Hub

We are creating Food Hubs in various communities in the metropolis. The objective is very simple – we would like to bring local, seasonal and sustainable produce with no pesticides, no fungicides, no GMO, no hormones and antibiotics in every home. Recently, a subscriber-friend of ours signed up to become a food drop in her community in Quezon City and part of Greenhills. Working together with our customers and subscribers who are as passionate as ours is a brilliant way to increase our campaign, outreach in other communities and access of organic produce grown by local and community farmers. And it makes this campaign a win-win situation for us all because we are able to create bigger impact and enable our food hubbers to increase their weekly food staples of organic items through the discount we offer to them. You might want to eat healthy food everyday or gradually shift to 100% organic, and by becoming a food drop in your location, the discount might enable. Contact us at 0927 675 5199/villagegreenshop@btinternet.com.
